How Wall Creations Began

The unique dynamics between Janese Simunek and Melvin Brown are what make them such a successful team, and this was evident from the start of their business venture more than twelve years ago.

Melvin and Janese met in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1998 and were both at a cross roads in their lives. They had a hunch, a nagging voice that called them to paint creatively and make it a business. Well, it was more Janese’s idea… while Melvin remained a bit skeptical. By 2001 they were offering their custom murals and Melvin and Janese knew they had something important to offer. They discovered that their customers were getting more than a painted home. The customers were seeing their dreams come to reality and were having their desires for creativity and unique escapes fulfilled.

Janese was brought up with parents that gave her the attitude that if you put enthusiasm and positive thinking into any situation, you would succeed. She never had the drive for college, so wherever the wind blew her, she jumped off the cliff with both feet, and gave it that “can do” attitude and was always successful. Whether it was selling donuts or time-share, Janese was the best and she believed in providing the best service for her customers.

From early on, Melvin knew he had two sides to himself. One side was a creative visionary while the other side lived in the practical world. After leaving the army, Melvin demonstrated his skills for problem-solving as a successful mechanic. But let’s face it, engines are only so creative. So when Janese introduced her business idea, Melvin took the leap.

With their creative talents combined, Janese’s ability to create anything and Melvin’s ability to problem-solve and sort out logistics, they are a powerful team.  They were often asked how as husband and wife they could work together side by side, day in and day out. But their answer is simple, “it’s magic when we work.”

They have enjoyed searching out talented artists to join their team. Many of them have ventured out into the art world on their own, with proud Janese and Melvin smiling. And as their business at Wall Creations continues to expand, they continue to practice new styles, dream up new murals, and experiment with unusual materials. Just ask Melvin why he likes Elmer’s glue. Yes, really!

At Wall Creations, they love what they do and the joy that it brings to their clients.Janese and Melvin are always striving to provide the “wow” factor to every home and business. Janese’s and Melvin’s passion and success was evident in the fast-paced growth of their business. Today, nine years later, they have transformed more than 1,000 spaces and are ready for more…
